This sacred ritual, performed by Thai Buddhist monks, is a way to connect with the divine and share positive energy, blessings, and spiritual harmony with one another and those in attendance. Ceremony Outline.
Initial Offering.
Your afternoon begins at the temple with a traditional bow and the presentation of offering packages to the monks. These offerings prepared in advance and presented at a special shrine are required to receive the monks’ blessings. As monks do not consume food after noon, these offerings do not include edible items.
Entering the Temple.
Following the initial chant, you’ll bow respectfully before entering the temple. Surrounded by the glow of candles and the scent of incense, you will be seated before the monks to present a second offering. Once accepted, the monks begin chanting sacred prayers, filling the temple with their beautiful, resonant blessings.
Holy Water Ritual.
To cleanse and bless the relationship, the couple joins hands to pour holy water into a bronze bowl, which is then offered to the Head Monk. A final blessing follows, as the monk gently sprinkles holy water over the couple a symbolic act of purification and spiritual protection.
Ceremony Conclusion.
The monks bestow Lucky String Bracelets upon the couple and guests a gesture of goodwill and lasting blessings.
